I missed a gorgeous one in just blue, but then found this two-tone in blue and a buttery lemon, very pretty. It is the only typewriter I can say I splurged on, and if I like it, it will be worth every penny.

(Also on the way are two Hermes Babys (sea foam green and orange), and a Royal Royalite in two-tone gray I am very excited about.)

But an even better machine is the Consul Deluxe, a larger (portable class) machine and a magnificent typer. It’s very heavy for its size, quite rugged and well-built, but handsome as well. This one is tied with my Hermes 3000 as my go-to machine out of the two dozen I own. I don’t see many Deluxes for sale, but well worth the search if you can snag one.

In a way that is the difficulty in reviewing any typewriter – most of them are 30+ years old, and due to their condition, it’s no longer a control study situation. I was irked at the action on my Olivetti Studio 44 and then replaced it with a different one, same model – strikingly different and improved.

It’s unfair to suggest all Consuls have poor alignment unless you are speaking from having typed on several.
