There’s one sure fire way to find the value of your beauty, write a page on it, snap a photo with your phone and send it and a photo of your Hermes 2000 to One Typed Page. We’d love to see it! smile

That’s not enough information. But it cannot be the seafoam green and 1934, that color began in the mid-1950s.

I acquired a Hermes 2000 a few years back in seafoam green with the green leather case. Serial number indicates 1934, but I don’t think that could possibly be true. Any words of advice on finding out the value of this beauty? Thanks in advance!! – Sara

A good impression is everything!

Now that you have your machine chugging along, consider submitting a page to One Typed Page! It’s a little project I started at the dawn of the pandemic to get us typewriter writers connected.

I keep coming back here and reading these pages. I recently got out and typed on every one of my 15 or so machines. I hadn’t even considered my 2000 in the top of them before. Now, after having ignored my collection for about a year and coming back to it free of bias I am finding the 2000 is my favorite of all of them. I have a perfect Hermes 3000, but it has an Elite typeface, so don’t use it because I can’t see it. I have a sumptuous Royal KMM, some Erikas, some other Royals, 2 Olympias, 2 Olivettis, but the Hermes 2000 is my favorite. And I think I know why…

First, it is the feel. It is not too easy. Several of my machines type too easily (which I used to think was a good thing). This causes me to make stupid mistakes. But it is not hard either. It is just right. But secondly, this is by far the most gorgeous typeface of all my machines. Some 3000s have this distinction as well. Instead of being close-together and smudgey it is crisp and open. And every impression applies ink equally. I have a beautiful Erika 10 that I love to type on but the amount of ink applied is linear to the amount of key pressure. This is a subtle Achilles heal thing on those I think, despite being mechanically gorgeous.

Oona Chaplin’s typewriter. She was the daughter of the writer O’Neill and Chaplin’s wife. And here an article about Richard Authier, who turned 92. He designed the 3000. http://mobile2.24heures.ch/articles/58cc18d4ab5c370f46000001

The 3000 is a great machine! The cupped keys are comforting. The soft, quiet feel is an easy going experience. I’d give a nod to the 2000, but not by much.

Etsy shop has been lean these days. I’ve got this awesome Erika up there with a QWERTY keyboard! If I were a collector, I’d keep her. But since I don’t use her, hope some other worthy scribe will whisk her away!
