Dean said it was sort of an accident, the way some of the cooler textured looking ones come out. I think some of them can be really really attractive. I am glad you like yours, I think it looks great!

You’re right! Appears as if infused. Always reminded by Mark Twain, “The difference between the almost right word and the right word is really a large matter. ’tis the difference between the lightning bug and the lightning.”

The tubroplatens are not infused with color, they are clear plastic. Dean paints or colors the core which the plastic goes over. It looks awesome. He’s a really cool guy if you ever get a chance to meet him. I met him at the West Virginia meeting (Herman’s) a year or two ago.

From my Underwood Three-Bank circa 1921 to my Alpina circa 1963 as my bookends with my two prized Erika 5s, Torpedo 18b and two Swissa Juniors in between these manufacturing dates, these machines write in a magical way, not only in the return speed of the type bars, but in their mesmerizing quiet; Indeed, Tom Furrier at Cambridge Typewriter couldn’t wait to install them, and give it a go. He was amazed. Me, too. Each and every time.
