Hi Daniel,

Thank you very much for your quick reply!

Yes, the layout is an issue but I was just going to power through it and correct it on the final draft on the computer anyhow (as I have the spelling of one of your lesser primates).

Here in Germany they seem to go pretty cheap… East German stuff usually carries a bit of a stigma.

Really enjoy the page!

Best,

Tony

Hi Tony,

While the Erika’s a grand typewriter, it’s one of those rare birds that’s not wildly available. When it is, can often fetch higher prices than what writers are willing to shell out and has that QWERTZ layout that would drive us English writers bonkers. The Top 10 are ones that can be easily found at reasonable-ish prices.

Cheers!
Daniel

I read your review on the Erika which sounded glowing – I’m looking into picking one up, so i was just wondering why it didn’t make the top ten.

Thanks and best,

Tony

No serious writer is banging away without one. That was true back in the day and still holds.

And anyone that can type moderately fast can get a Royal QDL to skip and crowd.

And love all the comments. So is there a difference in the sm9 in terms of writing utility from the 60s models to the 70s models? I’m looking at a 1971 sm9 but wondering if it is as good as the early model from the 60s. Thanks.
